Dear Members of the 24 Club,

Many of you knew my father Dave Hackler, one of the founding members of the 24 Club of Princeton.  He was active in your organization as many of you personally remember.  He passed in 2010 without having the chance to complete writing his book about the Blawenburg Band and its place in New Jersey history.

Because Dad spent the last 20 years of his life on this project, I decided to look at his notes and take over the work of compiling and editing it for him, posthumously.   The result is now a 215 page book that is available on Amazon and is titled: “Music for the People—the Blawenburg Band Goes for Two”.

Dad’s book may be of interest to some of you, as it includes many interesting facts about how the Princeton/Montgomery area developed from the Revolutionary War period to the present day.  The book includes chapters about the Lindbergh kidnapping, the Hall-Mills murder scandal, the effect of the World Wars on the local scene, to give a few examples.  It tells the story of how the Blawenburg Band was affected by these local and national events, and how the Band played a part in those times.

Dave’s book would make a wonderful keepsake for anyone interested in the local history Princeton and Montgomery, or for any enthusiast of band music.

Thank you for this opportunity to shamelessly promote my Dad’s work.  I’m certain that were he still alive, would share his enthusiasm for this project with you.

Sincerely,

Ellen Hackler
